History of New Dorp Heights
Some residents also refer to New Dorp Heights as Egbertville after John Egbert, a farmer and weaver who owned much of the land around what is now the intersection of Richmond Road and Rockland Avenue. It was also called Stony Brook as Staten Island's first county seat, then renamed Morgan’s Corner after a family that owned a farm there.
Gustave Mayer House
The Gustave A. Meyer House at 2475 Richmond Road is a historic New York City landmark that sits across from New Dorp Heights. It was built around 1855 and is named after Gustave Meyer, a key figure in the area’s early development. The house was created with an Italianate style. It has a low-pitched roof, decorative brackets, and tall, narrow windows.
Moravian Cemetery
Moravian Cemetery borders New Dorp Heights and is the oldest active cemetery on Staten Island, dating back to the mid-1700s. It’s also a beautiful, peaceful place with rolling hills, old trees, and winding paths. A lot of prominent figures are buried there, including members of the Vanderbilt family.

High Rock Park
High Rock Park is located on the boundary of New Dorp Heights. It hosts the Greenbelt Conservancy’s headquarters, and the United States Department of the Interior has recognized it as a Natural Environmental Education Landmark. It is very large and has a mix of woodlands, meadows, and wetlands. There are trails for hiking that range from easy strolls to more challenging hikes.
One cool spot is the High Rock Observation Tower, which gives you great views of the area. Residents and visitors also enjoy birdwatching there. There are picnic areas there too, where people can go to enjoy a nice, relaxing day outdoors.
New Dorp Lane
New Dorp Lane is located just southeast of New Dorp Heights and has a small-town main street vibe. It’s a place where you can find all the essentials in one place—shops, restaurants, and local businesses. Some of the businesses have been there for quite some time and are family favorites, like Brioso Italian Restaurant and Piece-A-Cake Bakery, which add to the community feel. It’s also very convenient, with everything being within walking distance.
There are often community events held here, with the street even being closed off sometimes. The Staten Island Railway station is also on the Lane, so it’s easy to hop on a train if you need to head into the city or somewhere else on Staten Island.

Also in the area is Walker Park, which has open space for playing sports as well as a playground for kids. There are benches for people to rest and the park is always well-maintained.
